About HCA

Our Mission

We exist to serve parents in the greater Spotsylvania area by cultivating virtue in young men and women through a Classical Christian education.

Coming alongside parents to bring a Classical Christian education

At Heritage Christian Academy, we believe every child is a reflection of God’s beautiful design—and we’re passionate about partnering with parents to celebrate that truth while equipping our students to engage the world with wisdom, grace, and a Christ-centered perspective. Discover how our education model places Christ at the heart of every subject.

Why Choose HCA?

To keep raising your children in the “discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
To reinforce the same beliefs you are teaching at home.
To challenge and equip your children to engage our culture with wisdom.
To help them do more than just get a great job, but to be a great person.
To encourage your boys to grow into godly men and girls into godly women.
To have Christ in the center of their studies and the center of their lives.

We are confessional

A confessional school is a school that adheres to a set of doctrinal beliefs – a confession. We are guided by three confessions from the reformed tradition. The purpose of having three confessions is to create space for Christians from a variety of reformed traditions to find their home at Heritage.

The reformed tradition of Protestant Christianity traces its origins through the 16th-century Protestant Reformation and the earlier teachings of Augustine to the Scriptures themselves. Reformed theology has a deep reverence for Scripture and a high view of the sovereignty of God.

Sovereign Grace Churches Statement of Faith
The London Baptist Confession of 1689
Westminster Confession of Faith of 1647 (or as adjusted in 1789)

We are a Protestant Christian school, committed to the basics of the Christian faith.  In addition, we hold to the following doctrinal distinctives:

  • Reformed. Reformed theology has a deep reverence for Scripture and a high view of the sovereignty of God.  Specifically, we affirm that while God commands the gospel to be proclaimed to all people everywhere, all people are spiritually dead and unable to respond to this saving news. Therefore, God graciously and effectually calls to himself those he chose to save in Christ.
  • Complementarian. We hold to the historic Biblical teaching that God created us male and female, with differing roles and with equal value. Every child is part of this beautiful, binary creation reality. We aim to equip boys to be men, husbands and fathers; and we aim to equip girls to be women, wives, and mothers.   We affirm the Danvers Statement as an accurate expression of the Biblical teaching regarding gender.

Heritage exists to serve families in the greater Spotsylvania & Fredericksburg area who align not only with the basics of the Christian faith, but with our doctrinal distinctives. Our aim is not to be “merely” reformed – but to respond in worship to God’s goodness revealed in these precious truths. Similarly, we aim to not simply defend male and female complementarity, but to see it celebrated and pursued in our students lives.

Birthed from Mercy Hill Community Church.

Heritage Christian Academy is a ministry of Mercy Hill Community Church. In the fall of 2024, the Lord impressed on the pastors and their wives the importance helping families transfer a gospel heritage to the next generation. Mercy Hill has gladly embraced this vision, and has enabled the school’s formation. HCA’s objective is to gain sufficient strength to have the potential to stand “on its own” under its own governing board. We will begin in the fall of 2025.
